Google has been the dominant search engine for many people for over a decade now. It has spawned many popular phrases such as “Just Google It” and “Have you tried Googling it yet?” Well, there is a new search engine making its way up through the ranks, and its name…is DuckDuckGo.
DuckDuckGo was started in 2006 by a single man with one goal: to provide a safe, secure search engine to break its users out of the “search bubble”. Because of this, DuckDuckGo is considered the safest way to search for content on the internet. Its privacy policy is one of just that: privacy. IP addresses are not stored, cookies are only used when needed, and nothing is logged. Besides that, it is also has many different features, or “goodies” that allow for a Zero-Click search. For instance, if I want to see something on Wikipedia really quick about cats, I can go to http://duckduckgo.com and just type in “!w cats”, and it will bring me right to the Wikipedia page. That is just one of the many goodies. There are plenty to go through. Check them out here.
A big reason to switch from Google to DuckDuckGo, is the fact that DuckDuckGo is simply a much safer search engine. It is a well known fact that Google collects information about you every time you use one of their services. Ever wonder why you always see ads that seem similar to one of your recent searches? That’s no coincidence. That’s Google at work. Not only that, but information about you, including but not limited to: search history (Google, Youtube, Blogger, etc…), recent activity, e-mail history, text history, and more can be accessed by the US Government or other federal agencies on demand, right from Google themselves. If you think that’s bad, imagine if Google was hacked, and some of their information about you got into the hands of some Blackhat Hackers? Well, rest assured, because that will never happen. Right?
Not only that, but what would happen if a bad Google employee was to go snooping around through your information? But don’t worry, Google only hires people that won’t do that…Right
You guessed it.
It’s things like this that makes DuckDuckGo a better and safer browser to use. Well, that and much more. Find them out here and here.
