On Friday May sixth, a select group of business students under the direction of Mr. Swain attended a marketing workshop at Bryant and Stratton College. The day was started with a brief introduction about the college and what the workshop would consist of. This was all done by Makenzie J. Garner. She then broke the two schools that attended the workshop into six different groups and we were given our project for the day.
The team that I had been assigned to was made up of four Galway students and two Schenectady students. We were given a room to work in and a student ambassador was supervising the session. The marketing project was to lour prospective high school students to the College with a new and creative t-shirt design.
The processes that my group went through included mostly brain storming. Out of the hour we were given more that half was devoted to getting everyone’s thoughts on what should be on the shirt and how to market the school while also catching the eye of a perspective student. We finally decided on putting the Colleges logo on the front left of the shirt and focusing primarily on the back section. We decided to use one of the schools slogans on the upper and lower part of the shirt and place the different majors offered at the college in the middle. Our group believed that anyone who is looking into the college would become more familiar with the logo, slogan, and majors if they were able to see all of them on one shirt.
After we finished the shirt we had to decide on the new slogan which was part of the final presentation as well. Everyone brainstormed again and Jade came up with the slogan we chose as a group; Bryant and Stratton College your future stats here. After we had finished all of the assignments we were directed by our student ambassador to the waiting room where we decided on who would be the main speaker for the group and how everyone had input of the shirt design and slogan. Mike Diamond and I were the main speakers. We divided the speech evenly and discussed the main points with Ms. Gardner and here panel of judges. We discovered half way through the presentation that we had misspelled the word personal on the shirt and that was not helping our chances of wining.
After the presentation we ate lunch as a group and waited for the judging to finish. Before the final results were given four guest speakers gave us incite to their careers and how the world of business has many opportunities that are always available if you are the right candidate for the job. They gave us backgrounds on their previous and current business jobs and were all in different sections of business that had found them. The speeches were very interesting and may have influenced me to change what I thought was a concrete major. Marketing turned out to be very interesting and enjoyable.
At the close of the day the team leader of each group was asked to present their shirt to the rest of the group and the winner was chosen. The final two were brought forward and then Ali Hunters group was selected for the chance to have their design be made into an actual t-shirt for the college. It was a great trip and gave the prospective business students at Galway another reason to continue into the field of business.
