GALWAY– The Galway Girls Varsity Soccer Team Has had an amazing start to their 2011 season! The team consists of 2 Sophomores (Erica Chase, Shelby Suits), 12 Juniors (Ashley Fredericks, Hayley Pawlowski, Brianne Rogers, Shaina Schulz, Amanda Kondrat, Maddy Moore, Abigail Spagnola, Lexy Hennessey, Kelly Philips, Tegan Matthews, Paige Galloway, Rebekah Reicard), 4 seniors (Stacey Arnold (captain) , Carolyn Gibbins (captain), Sam Pappalau, Bridgid McFadden and the team manager Grace Milton.
The entire team of 18 have blended well on and off the field. This is in part due to the two team bonding activities. The first was at Kelly’s camp during preseason training. The second was before the Middleburgh game (the hardest of the season); it was a pasta party at Abby Spagnola’s house. The team also participates in a weekly ritual, we call secret soccer player. This is an activity that takes place every Wednesday, in which one player gives another a small gift to get them pumped for the upcoming game. The team resembles that of a family, this is even visible to those not on the team.
The girls’ record is 3-1-1 meaning 3 wins, 1 tie (Middleburgh), 1 loss (Northville). The team is working very hard to be Northern WAC Champions, and for success during sectionals. The team is a joy to watch; they are quick paced, have great skill and are quite physical. We encourage all to watch their games, you won’t be disappointed. The next home game is 10-05-11 and please note that the Mayfield under the lights game is on 10/21/2011 @ 7pm.
