Bored with dry descriptions of 18th-century Europe? Unimpressed with the lack-luster, textbook accounts of the Eiffel Tower and the Coliseum? Galway’s annual excursion to Europe is the perfect opportunity to see the wonders of the world first-hand and finally experience the magic of traveling. Last year’s adventure took Galway travelers to four countries—Holland, Belgium, France, and England—allowing students and teachers to visit some of the most intriguing tourist destinations in the world.
Although the flight overseas seems to drag on for days, traveling overseas easily makes up for this minor frustration. Traveling opens your eyes to foreign cultures, immersing you in the depths of an unknown language and age-old traditions. Your American tendencies suddenly become acute, from your accent to your Nike basketball sneakers, and you will find yourself trying to blend in and act like a native. After absorbing the cool rain in Amsterdam, taking in the brisk evening view of Paris from atop the Eiffel Town, or drooling over the diamond-encrusted Crown Jewels of England, you realize just how vast our world is—how much there is yet to see. Traveling forces you to jump outside of the comfort of your native culture, and, although you will appreciate the security of the United States the second you step off the plane, you will find yourself hungry for more.
This year Galway will be traveling to the southern regions of Italy—an opportunity to satiate this desire. Exploring Rome, Sicily, and the Sorrento region, our group of adventurous Galwegians will soak up the Mediterranean air and take in the vastness of the ancient Roman coliseum. Even better, the travelers will journey with their friends and family, getting it all for a discounted rate through EF Tours. If you are interested in journeying abroad and seeing more of the world than your textbook can offer, see Mrs. V or Mrs. K today! The final day to sign up is Thursday, October 20th.
