Another reason to love Galway: Mrs. Horigan
Have you ever had that coach that pushes your limits and keeps working you even when you think you can’t go anymore? Well Mrs. Horigan, the modified track & field and modified cross country coach, pushes her teams to their breaking points every single day of practice, preparing them for their approaching meets.
Mrs. Horigan’s favorite thing about coaching track is watching her athletes do their best and succeed. Mrs. Horigan has been coaching track for 8 years and her children are the reason she has coached track for so long. They were all runners at Galway and she loved the energy of championing them their seasons so coaching others made sense when they moved on. Her favorite events are long distance running, which can range anywhere from 1500 meters to 3000 meters.
With Mrs. Horigan being the track coach you would expect her to have participated in track or cross country during her school experience? Well when Mrs. Horigan went to school, she tells us, “There were no girl sports at all.” She never got to experience the thrill of setting a baton into her teammate’s hand or landing in the soft sand at the end of the runway in the long jump.
Mrs. Horigan is one of the best coaches you could ever have and even though you may question her when it comes to burpees, she knows that we must break our boundaries in order to get the most out of each practice. Even when we think we can go no more, she knows that we can.
Mrs. Horigan is a fantastic Modified Track and Field coach. She is planning on retiring after this year, but her whole team is hoping that she will continue to coach for a long time to come!
