Athlete Spotlight: Emma Smith
With Galway spring sports ending, athletes are reflecting on their seasons. Emma Smith is one of Galway’s athletes who had to step up this season but as my dad says, “Pressure makes diamonds.”
Emma is in 8th grade is and playing shortstop and pitcher for the Galway Varsity softball Team. She knew she was being considered because she took the selective classification test but when Coach told her she said she was still surprised!
Emma has been playing softball since she was 4. Her love of the sport has been nurtured by her family. Members of the Varsity team have also been supportive. “They love to give me hugs,” says Emma.
The other perk besides hugs? Emma said, “Being on the high school team brings out a competitive side in me.”
