The “Alliance” of GSA
Have you considered joining any new clubs this year? Do you enjoy using your voice to speak up for others? Our school has just the club for you! No matter who you are, or what your sexuality is, we welcome you and accept everyone!
What is GSA?
GSA stands for Gay/Straight Alliance. GSA is a student-led organization that provides high school students, a part of the LGBTQ+ community, a safe, comfortable environment in school. Our club is a way for our school’s LGBTQ+ members to use their voice and communicate with allies, teachers, and other students.
What Does It Mean To Be An Ally?
A straight, or heterosexual, ally is someone who supports equal civil rights, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ social movements. An ally is someone who has a genuine interest in the well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Our allies are people who support and look out for the LGBTQ+ community. Allies will advocate for equal and fair treatment from others outside the community. LGBTQ+ supporters are so important to our club, it’s always good to have someone who will constantly support you no matter the circumstance. Our heterosexual allies will stand up against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia that is portrayed by other students in our school.
Why is GSA Important in Schools?
Having GSA meetings is important because we offer a positive environment for the LGBTQ+ community in our school district! Being a part of GSA means you serve a role in supporting the personal well-being of our students. GSA helps to enhance the connection between students, it helps LGBTQ+ community member’s mental health and wellbeing. The club offers a positive environment for students to feel safe in school and gives them a place to get away from any discrimination they may encounter in school. GSA is a place of comfort and offers an all around positive environment for our LGBTQ+ students!
