Riley Kress and Virginia Thorpe will be published in the upcoming issue of Empowered after being selected by a contest hosted by Young Writers. Riley’s poem, “Girl in an American School” was written to help other girls “feel like they’re not the only ones who experience these issues.” Virginia’s poem, “My Irish Girl,” was written to shed light on foreign wars in order to “enlighten people to the past and struggles of others.”
