Back in 2016 when my grandfather told us he was selling Chuck’s Store, no one knew what was going to happen to it. After all, it had been our family business for 58 years. I only got to spend 6 short years there but those 6 years were filled with amazing (and yummy!) memories, from my grandma bringing me to work there (almost everyday), getting my own apron, having a “usual” and everyone knowing my name. I remember being allowed behind the counter and it always made me feel so special.
It was emotional for my family to let it go, but it was for the best.
The new owners opened their doors on November 4th and 5th, and they have been the talk of the town since!
After getting permission from Principal Miller and my mom, I went over there during my lunch period on a Monday with my teachers Mrs. Decker and Mrs. DeLuca. There were only a few people there since it was a Monday in Galway, but I’m sure that on the weekend many people go there.
Mrs. Decker got a blueberry scone and told me it was, “The best scone I have ever had!”
The staff there was very nice and the environment felt nice and cozy. They did change the layout of the store a little, but there were elements from Chuck’s that were still there. They kept the bar and in the spot where the old booths were, there are now new green ones.
After hearing from family and friends that the food there is very good, I recently got a burger and blueberry scone (Based on my teachers strong recommendation) and they were delicious! The burger was topped with crispy lettuce and fresh, juicy tomatoes. They serve lots of different comfort foods like mac and cheese, burgers, soup, and breakfast. They also have soda, pink lemonade, iced tea, juice, and coffee with lots of syrups and milk/ milk alternatives to go in it.
Overall I think that the Galway local is going to be a big hit in our little town. So next time you get a chance, maybe check it out!
