I recently went to the Odyssey of the Mind regional tournament. Odyssey of the Mind is a group that, in short, gives you a problem that you have to solve creatively. It starts around October, and 5 months later, you get to perform your solution in a tournament. This is my first year, and I was very grateful for my team members who showed me the ropes.
One of the highlights of the competition was watching other performances. I got to see so many other OMers performances and take notes on how to improve our own performance. So many of them made me laugh, especially the division 3 team.
Another great thing was, surprisingly, the waiting room. You would think that would be boring, but no! Henry and I played card games the whole time and joked around. The whole day was really stressful, but the waiting room helped take the edge off.
Finally, the best part. When you perform, you get judges who grade you with a set of points. Not only did we get first place, but my team also got higher than we have ever scored before! We got a score of 135, which is unheard of in Odyssey! There is so much more I could talk about in the scoring process, but long story short, we did amazing!
I had such a blast at my first tournament and there was so much I couldn’t talk about. It was an amazing experience I know I will remember for the rest of my life!
