We all know how trends work, one person shows up one day with something people find interesting and the next thing you know everyone has it. Who would have thought a water bottle could be so trendy? Stanley has even taken it to the next level, on your feed you see things like “Let’s pack my Stanley.” Since when do our water bottles carry mini backpacks on them? Honestly I don’t think this water bottle is worth the $45 for a cup that is said to leak. But let’s hear what some other people had to say about it.
I asked some fellow classmates and Stanley owners what they thought about Stanleys. From a student’s perspective the Stanley is great for enabling you to drink water and they keep your preferred beverage cold. The average rating out of the 10 students I surveyed was a 5.3. Over half of these students have a Stanley, but for the ones who don’t their ratings seem to be lower. It all depends on preference and durability, while some people might just follow trends others rely on a good water bottle that’ll last them years.
When asking adults, their preferences came from a more mature point of view. I found that all of them said it was overpriced. Most of the time kids aren’t paying for their own water bottles so when it comes to pricing, that doesn’t really play a role in the rating. Many also said it’s just a trend and that it would only last so long. The average rating for adults was 4.3. But, none of these adults owned a Stanley, therefore the rating could always alter.
Recently Stanley has had some competition with the brand Owala. Another cute water bottle that comes in a variety of colors. Unlike Stanleys, Owalas do a much better job containing the water. These water bottles range from around $15-$30. A lot cheaper than some Stanleys, but just as popular. As you can see around the school there are a lot more Owalas than Stanleys now. But what is it about these water bottles that is so interesting? Yes they are cute, but when getting down to functionality is it something that’ll last us a year or two.
Overall Stanleys are mostly there to please people rather than their needs. While they can hold ice for 48 hours, there are many cheaper options that do the same. Also the fact that you’re paying for a $45 water bottle that leaks everywhere doesn’t seem like you’re getting your money’s worth. But either way trends only last so long and sooner or later people will have another thing to fixate over.
