Mrs. Silsby ran the Christopher Dailey 5k on Thanksgiving.
She has been racing since 2008 because she wanted to be able to run with her husband. The first race she did was called “Jingle All The Way” in Rochester.
Mrs. Silsby never specifically trained for the Thanksgiving 5K. She will run on average 2 miles at least 2 days a week. This kept her prepared for the 5k.
Overall, the race was filled with beautiful scenery, well organized, and properly staffed.
She commented,“Yes, I would totally recommend it. Just not in the snow.”
If you can’t remember, Thanksgiving 2024 was coated with snow, which makes running a race difficult due to temperature and sliding. There are types of shoes that may prevent this (straight shoes), but unfortunately she wore trail running shoes. Mrs. Silsby ran her hardest and came out with a respectable time.
By the time that she came back, her sister in law was waiting with an excellent story. While her sister in law and brother were racing, the snow piled up on the trees. Eventually the snow built up enough weight to knock down the tree branch and almost collide with her sister in law! Nobody was hurt, but it was a close call!
After the race, Mrs. Silsby was able to visit with some other runners who are current or former students and coworkers. Emma DiPasquale and Mrs. Prehn were both there to say hello. Mrs. Silsby described the event as “enjoyable.”
The song got it exactly right, there really is nothing better than running in a winter wonderland!
