Coach Wilday and Coach Cannell headed the effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness this week. The Galway girls’ varsity and junior varsity teams were set to play Mayfield on the evening of Tuesday the 17th, but the game was postponed due to the weather.
The Coaches vs. Cancer game was moved to Wednesday night the 18th and started off with a foul shooting contest. Before game night, each participant paid five dollars to shoot twenty foul shots. After the throws, participants would write down how many they made out of twenty. Then during the Coaches vs. Cancer game, the two top scorers of each grade level won an award and a trophy.
Each member of the varsity and junior varsity basketball and cheerleading teams bought pink tee-shirts to wear to the game. During the game they sold tee-shirts, had a 50/50 raffle and also collected any loose change teachers, students and parents donated into the pink buckets that were circulated around the school on Pink Out Day. By the end they had raised four hundred dollars! It was nice to see so many people participate and see all the pink in the hallways! Galway should definitely be proud of their donations and the girls’ basketball teams.
Congratulations to the winners of the foul shooting contest.
