GALWAY-The Galway girls’ varsity and JV volleyball team held their annual end of the season banquet. The varsity team together was presented with two awards they earned thoughout the season: Champions of the 2012 WAC tournament and the overall title as first place in the WAC league with an overall record of 17-1. Hayley Martin made the WAC north FirstTeam All-Star and also received the title as WAC North MVP Hitter. Emily Orminski received WAC North MVP Setter while her sister Brittany received WAC North MVP DS. Adrianna Watrobski totaled the most points with 210 points, Emily Zawisa earned most kills with 105, and Rachel Jones most blocks with 37. Seniors Hayley Martin and Chelsea Cucci also played on the north exceptional senior team Thursday, November 8th at Berne Knox Westerlo.
This season was marked with many achievements. This year the girls went all out in their Coaches vs. Cancer pink game. Not only did they make special uniforms, but they made baked goods, along with hair ties and various things to sell and support. $300 was raised in Coaches vs. Cancer, added with a total of a little over $500 raised by the selling of candles and hot fudge. The annual pancake breakfast was held by the entire volleyball club, grades 7-12, and ran by the modified team.
Along with a successful playing season, a successful fundraising season could not have been accomplished without the help of the volleyball girls, their families, coaches, booster club, and our new assistant principal and athletic director Mrs. Donavan. A big thank you to all those who supported us, and we all look forward to a great season next year.
